We live in a world where rape has actually turned to rape culture because it happens so often. There will be a rape-related news at least once every day. It has come to the point where we will read about it, feel really angry and then move on with our daily lives. However, four students didn’t want to ‘move on’ from this issue and really wanted to do something about it.

The number of sexual assaults caused by date rape drugs has been on the rise since this method impairs the victim’s memory and in some cases, they don’t even remember if they consented to it. Does it mean it was rape? Yes. Here is a clear definition from University of the Sciences for those who may still be confused. – Force is not necessarily involved; if someone is unable to give consent or does not agree to have sexual intercourse it is considered rape. (i.e. if someone is asleep or “passed-out”). Thus, drugging someone to take advantage of them is still considered illegal.

Some of the common date rape drugs are Rohypnol (roofies), GHB (liquid ecstasy) and Xanax. These can be easily popped into a drink without anyone knowing it. Guarding your drink is a good way to stay safe but what if the drink was spiked even before it got to you? This is where Undercover Colors swoops in and saves you from the disasters of what could happen.

Undercover Colors is the brainchild of Stephen Gray, Ankesh Madan, Tasso Von Windheim and Tyler Confrey-Maloney. They came up with this simple yet effective idea during their university’s Engineering Entrepreneurs Program at North Carolina State University. A simple idea that now has the support from people and institutions all over the world.

So what is Undercover Colors? The awesome new beauty product ever! It’s a nail polish that changes colour when it detects drugs like Rohypnol, GHB and Xanax. If you suspect your drink is spiked or if you want to be extra careful, all you have to do is stir your drink with your finger and if there is something “unwanted” present in it, your nail polish will change colour.

What a great way to stay safe AND have pretty nails?
