A new cross-border carpooling service from Singapore to Johor Baru (JB) by ride-booking company Grab will soon make for an easier and cheaper commute for those traveling between countries.
The service, called the GrabHitch Johor Baru-Singapore Inter-Country Service, or GrabHitch JB-SG for short, will be available from next Monday (20 June). Passengers can pre-book rides between 30 minutes and seven days in advance, and will be notified when a match is found based on their selected pick-up and drop-off points.
Fares are shown up front, calculated based on the distance of the ride, along with a fixed cross-border surcharge. Passengers can make their payments, in the currency of the country of departure, by cash or credit card. For example, a ride from Woodlands to City Square in JB will cost either RM 9 (S$3) or S$9 and a ride from Orchard to AEON Bukit Indah is priced at RM23 (S$8) or S$14.
This service will enable both drivers and passengers to save on transport costs, while also enjoying the safety, comfort, and convenience of a GrabCar ride.
To celebrate the launch of the service, Grab will be running a special promotion from 20 June to 20 August. Passengers will get S$5 off all weekday trips from Singapore to JB that are above 10km, by entering the promo code “hitch2jb” when making a booking.
