Who would have thought that a heartland location is filled with places perfect for #OOTD shots? Despite limited research, we chanced upon a few good spots just by walking aimlessly around Toa Payoh (TPY). From the iconic Dragon Playground to the popular National Library @ Toa Payoh, our afternoon spent were well worth our time and energy.
Why would you pick a mainstream location where hundred other people have the exact same picture when you can be different? Here are 5 different locations you can pose to your heart contents.
#1 – National Library @ Toa Payoh
Love the quietness of the library, smell of books, or simply the free air-conditioning? Shooting in a library ensures comfort by avoiding Singapore’s hot and sunny weather. Pretend to read a book or pick one from any shelves. Studious much?
Location: 6 Toa Payoh Central, S(319191)
#2 – Random Back Alley
Toa Payoh is homed to numerous shophouses, and at the back of each row are these spiral stairs painted in a bright blue and yellow colour. Sometimes you find a good spot in the least expecting ways and this is one of them.
Location: Behind 186 Toa Payoh Central, S(310186)
#3 – Deserted Carpark
With the entire rooftop to yourself, the place literally becomes your grandfather’s carpark! Posing anywhere will not be an issue so take your time (if you really don’t mind the Sun) to get amazing shots.
#4 – Iconic Dragon Playground
One of the few remaining sandy playgrounds in Singapore, the Dragon Playground is popular among avid hipster photographers. Once you’re done with the shoot, relive your childhood memory and unleash the inner kid in you by sliding down the slide? Remember to control your speed if you don’t wish to be an aching bump after.
Location: 28 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh, 310028
#5 – Sporty Stadium
Ever had your school’s annual sport’s day at Toa Payoh stadium? I am sure many did and heading back there might seem a little stranger. However, the steps make such a perfect backdrop for a photoshoot. Take a break from the heat, enjoy the breeze in your face while looking at sport enthusiasts working out.
Location: 297 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh, 319389
#6 – Nature Calmness @ Toa Payoh Town Park
What I love about TPY’s Town Park (other than the smell) is the fact that it provides so many different backdrops for shooting! From the lalang grass to oriental structures, it gives a different vibe with each angle. Spot terrapins in the pond while you’re there!
Location: Junction of Toa Payoh Lor 2 and Toa Payoh Lor 6 (Opposite TPY’s Interchange)
Avoid the crowded and overrated hipster places, and choose a neighbourhood area to explore. You will never know what you can find.
