Descendants of the sun, also known as DOTS, is definitely the drama of the year. After airing the first episode, the drama immediately took off and went viral. Through words of mouth, I came to know about this drama and I was instantly hooked. For someone who is not a big fan of Korean dramas (please don’t hate me for saying), DOTS is a drama worth watching.
Instead of the usual cliché scenes that a typical Korean drama will have, DOTS are more subtle and pleasing to the eyes. Not only were the storyline amazing but also the stunning looking film sites that got many wonders where exactly are those places.
Here is the list of places that the DOTS drama filmed at, which are mainly located in Greece and Korea.
1. Taebaek Harbor Exhausted Mine
Recalled the military based on the show placed in Urk? Well, the set was actually built on an old mine in Taebaek, Gangwon Province. Sadly, it was torn down after the shoot ended last November. Here’s the good news! Due to the overwhelming response from fans, plans have been made to rebuild the film set! Though an actual date has not been set, it was said to be around June/July.
Address: 140-8, Tong-dong, Taebaek-si, Gangwon-do, Korea
2. dal.komm Coffee
First Coffee Scene:
Second Coffee Scene:
dal.komm coffee showed up on two different occasions. Episode one starred Song Joong-ki and Jin Goo enjoying a cup of coffee before they caught the thief, while episode two starred Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo. The two episodes were filmed at different outlets and these are the locations and directions of getting there.
3. Samtan Art Mine
Do you remember the underground earthquake scene that took place in a factory or the scene where Boss kidnapped Kang Mo Yeon? The filming site was located in an abandoned coal mine located at the foot of the Hambaeksan Mountain, in Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do. The abandoned coalmine has been transformed into a cultural art complex, Samtan Art Mine, where you can view modern art along with the filming scenes that took place in the drama.
The scene where Song Joong Ki took Song Hye Gyo to see a shipwrecked vessel from 1980 that still sits in the sand was located in Navagio beach, Zakynothos Island – a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. Navagio beach is the most popular beach in Greece and it’s only accessible by boat. Visit the place and recreated your own love story.
Address: Navgio Beach, Zakynthos, 290 90, Greece
5. Arachova
Whenever the DOTS couple made a trip down to town, Arachova provided a lot of urban settings for the filming scenes. Located in a mountain town, Arachova is in the western part of Boeotia, Greece. One of the best times to visit is during the wintertime, where the ski facilities offer one of the best skiing locations. Ski lovers would love the place as well as people who enjoy a relaxing vacation.
Address: Arachova, Boeotia, Greece
If you are interested in visiting these locations, you need to hurry because DOTS fans are already flocking over to the filming location. Recreated your own romantic drama or enjoy the sight and food from each location.
